John Arbon Appledore DK
John Arbon Appledore DK
Appledore DK is another of John Arbon’s beautiful blends - in this case, it brings together three different fibres from their neighbourhood in the West Country of England. It blends Devon Closewool, a moorland breed with rustic and grippy fibre, with lustrous and characterful Romney and the bouncy Exmoor Blueface. The resulting yarn has lots of woolly bounce and a bit of lustre. It provides the perfect canvas for Appledore’s range of playful, beautifully heathered shades.
Appledore DK’s palette reflects a depth of tone found in traditional tweed textiles, with many blended using four or five different base shades. It’s a loosely spun DK, with a distinctive rustic halo. This halo and its two-ply nature means the resulting yarn can be worked at tight or looser gauges, as the halo of fibres will simply expand to fill in any gaps around the stitches.
This yarn is a loosely spun DK, with a distinctive rustic halo (the handle is a little reminiscent of a Shetland yarn). The resulting fabric has wonderfully warm woolly halo and a full-boddied texture. Because of this halo and its two-ply nature, the resulting yarn can be worked at both a tight and looser gauge, as the halo of fibres will simply expand to fill in any gaps around the stitches.
LIMITED EDITION: We’ve got a very limited amount of Brewed by the Mill Folk special colourways - Oaken Pin, Sour Bay, and Sugar Bush. These shades have all been dreamt up by the fabulous folk who work at John Arbon Textiles - in this case, Martha and Tash, who are part of the JAT finishing crew. They spend their days coning and skeining and putting the last finishing touches on the yarn.
Each 100g skein has approx 250m of yarn. Suggested gauge is 24-18 sts per 4 inches / 10cm, with 3.75 - 5.5 mm needles.
