iinouiio DK - recycled wool
We’re fans of yarn companies that are pushing the envelope with efforts to recycle fibres and try to build a more circular industry. So we’re really happy to present iinouiio yarns - short for It Is Never Over Until It Is Over.
How do unwanted textiles become yarn? Here’s how Team iinouiio describes the process: “Waste raw materials are sorted for quality and colour (no dyeing needed) and contaminants (such as zips, buttons and linings) are removed, the material is shredded (‘pulled’) and spun to produce (colour-coordinating) yarns, fabrics and non-woven felt. This process of transformation is like watching an amazing magic show.”
Have a look at their Instagram to learn more, or visit their website for a full education on the practice, the whys and the wherefores of shoddy and textile recycling.
Curious about the possibilities? Alexandra Brinck, one of our favourite insta knitters (and menders!) has made two beautiful cardigans from this DK, including one with a touch of mohair for extra squish.
If you’re a fan of the Haptic and Hue podcast (we truly are), you can also hear a great interview with Dr Parkinson here. Host Jo Andrews dives deeply into the history of shoddy, then brings us right up to date with the story of iinouiio.
Each 50g ball of DK has 115m of yarn, meant to be knit at a gauge of approx 22sts to 4 inches. Needle sizeUS 6 - 4.0 mm
The yarn is 97 percent wool / 3 percent other fibres.
