The Sanda, a Merchant & Mills pattern
The Sanda, a Merchant & Mills pattern
The Sanda is an oversized coat or jacket with a rolled collar and turn back cuffs. The coat has inseam pockets, while the jacket has patch pockets. The Sanda can be made with a lining or left unlined.
All seam allowances are 1.5cm unless stated otherwise and are included in the pattern.
Skill level: intermediate.
Suitable fabrics include dry oilskin, oilskin, linen, 7-12oz denim, wool, corduroy, cotton twill or canvas. A heaver weight cloth will result in a more structured coat.
For linings, consider a barrier lining if using an oilskin. Other lining options include cotton voile, lightweight linen, cotton poplin, lightweight wool and slip linings.
Note that M&M recommends sewists who are a curvy size 18 to choose the UK 18-28 size range.
Note that this printed pattern comes from Merchant and Mills’ new pattern printer. Their patterns are now printed within Europe, the pattern paper is 70gsm white (FSC® certified) and is made only 180km away from the printers. Their instructions now come in booklet format rather than A3 sheets. The paper is PEFC/01-31-126 certified.
