The Paynter Jacket, a Merchant & Mills + Paynter pattern
The Paynter Jacket, a Merchant & Mills + Paynter pattern
We have been waiting for this one with a lot of happy anticipation - because we are big, big fans of Paynter and of course of Merchant & Mills. What happy news to see this collaboration!
Paynter Jacket Co. make limited edition jackets four times a year that are made to order, so there's no waste from over-production. Their jackets are classic pieces that will stand the test of time and get better with age.
The Field Jacket is Paynter's first make-your-own jacket pattern in collaboration with Merchant & Mills.
These paper patterns include two woven labels - one is to be positioned inside the jacket near the hip and the other is a smaller label for the back neck. The larger label has been designed by @hello.ludio. Lucie’s design features the sun and the moon to represent time and getting lost in the practice of making. These labels are only available in the paper patterns and won’t be sold elsewhere.
Skill level: Advanced.
Size: XS-XXL. For sizing, Merchant & Mills recommends checking jacket's finished measurements against a jacket that you like the fit of. If you are unsure of fit and sizing, please do not hesitate to email them.
Fabric suggestions: Merchant & Mills recommends light to medium-weight wovens up to 8oz, cotton twills, denim, wool and dry oilskin. There are nine layers to sew through during the pocket construction, so check the fabric you choose can be accommodated by your sewing machine.
All seam allowances are 1.5cm unless otherwise stated.
Merchant & Mills has created a substantial video with Kate, their sample machinist, to help you through the tricky bits. That's alongside a blog post that shows you how to change the hip pocket to a patch pocket. This makes it an easier sew and also means you go through slightly less layers so you could use a thicker fabric.
