ITO Sensai - a range of colours to give a bit of hazy loveliness to all kinds of projects.

ITO

We're delighted to bring you this small range of ITO yarns, which are produced in Japan to exacting standards. Taking its name from the Japanese word for yarn or thread, ITO works with small businesses across Japan to produce a range of 29 yarns in a variety of fibres from wool to cotton to paper to recycled silk.

ITO Shimo is a fingering-weight woolen spun yarn produced on an old mule spinning system. It's a delicate mix of recycled silk ITO Kinu mixed with a fine 19.5 micron lambswool. The fibres are mixed before carding, which produces a mélange effect. ITO Shimo is scoured after spinning and will bloom even more with washing. It pairs beautifully with Sensai, producing a lofty, light fabric that is like knitting a cloud.

ITO Kinu is perfect for any summer knitting you've got in mind - we could not choose a favourite colour so we've got lots and lots so you can easily find a favourite or two. You could, for example, start with this gem from Isabell Kraemer.

And last but not least, ITO Sensai is the delightful thread that can bind so many threads together - wool, linen, silk - with a beautiful hazy halo, pops of colour and luscious softness. On its own it’s also sublime - just have a look at the Sorbet cardigan if you’re curious.
