Studio Palanquin balloton thimble

75.00

This exquisite hand-blown glass from Studio Palanquin is a visual treat and joy to behold. Perfect for whisky or wine (especially rose or orange). We've also enjoyed espresso, chocolate mousse and a dram on the rocks. You could even go the decorative route using a tea candle to create a stunning flickering effect.

The ‘balloton’ technique forms an organic geometric pattern that bends and refracts light. It looks and feels delicate, but is incredibly strong. A very generous serving discreetly awaits you in this wonderfully compact vessel that is only 75mm wide and 65mm high. Capacity 175 ml.

Shipped as pairs and sets of four. Read more about Studio Palanquin's story here.

'Balloton' is one of the Venetian hand blown glass techniques borne in the factories of Murano Island dating back to the 12th Century. Other styles include  adventurina, bollinato, calcedonio, fenicio, filigrana, scavo, sommerso and zanfirico.

It involves blowing glass into a metal mold that has small square-capped ‘points’ or needles that keep the design in place. This is no factory process - great care is required to ensure the glass forms correctly in the mold. The points create a cross-relief, or rounded diamond shaped pattern, in the molten glass leaving a geometrical pattern of great effect.

These beautiful glasses have been hand made in California, USA - adding a cool, contemporary West Coast design aesthetic to an ancient skill.

We recommend hand washing. This is high quality, hand-blown product. It is very strong, but it does need a bit of careful handling to ensure a long life.

The glasses are well packed, marked fragile for shipping and backed by our free replacement guarantee should anything go wrong in transit.
